Michael -

You learn a lot about people in several social coderies.

Question 8 - Are there any negative stereotypes or misconceptions people have about this role that you think are untrue?

Michael -

Many people feel that marketing is about manipulating people and that the manipulation is evil somehow. By definition action of manipulating someone in a clever or unscrupulous way. Yes, it can be used in an unscrupulous way but that is only the case with those that intend for ill gotten motives. When we dialog with people about things we disagree with it is our goal to manipulate the other into believing the way we do, or when we promote a product, service, or process we are also attempting to manipulate someone into agreeing with something that may improve their life somehow that seems hardly evil.

Question 9 - What does it take to be successful in this role?

Michael -

Be trained to start, plan your strategy, document everything, research, create manageable and quantitative goals, understand the data then put it to use.

Question 10 - Why is this role important to the business economy as a whole?

Michael -

Without some form of marketing your chances of success diminish.  Even if you have a restaurant that is very successful by nothing more than word of mouth adding a marketing strategy can help you grow even more, can help you spot trends that can hurt business, and help can help you make your customers even more satisfied in your establishment.
